COMETS WELCOME VLATKO ANDONOVSKI AS HEAD COACH
- Updated: August 29, 2013
Goran Karadzov Joins Staff As Assistant Coach
INDEPENDENCE, MO (August 29, 2013) – Last season the Missouri Comets were moments away from bringing home the 2012-2013 Major Indoor Soccer League Championship. Although they were not able to capture the championship title, the team has dedicated itself to a continued pursuit by the franchise to bring the MISL Trophy home to Comets fans this season. As part of that dedication, Vlatko Andonovski will assume the role of Head Coach.
Andonovski is promoted to the position after three seasons in his prior role as Comets Assistant Coach. Andonovski also currently serves as Head Coach of FC Kansas City, one of the premiere teams in the National Women’s Soccer League. In their inaugural season he was named the NWSL Coach of the Year and his players swept all six of the league’s individual post-season awards.
“I am excited about this opportunity,” remarked Andonovski about his new role with the Comets. “I have learned so much from Kim (Roentved) and I am anxious to get this season started.”
Andonovski played professionally for 6 seasons in Europe for clubs such as Rbotnicki FC, Vardar, and Makedonija GP. He played indoor professionally in the National Professional Soccer League for the Wichita Wings, and in the MISL for the Kansas City Comets, California Cougars, and the Philadelphia Kixx. During his time in the MISL he received several accolades, including two All-Star selections for the Kansas City Comets.
“I cannot express my gratitude enough for what (Roentved) has done for this organization and Kansas City soccer in general,” said Team President Brian Budzinski. “Vlatko is ready to carry on the tradition of Comets soccer and help bring home the MISL Championship that our fans deserve.”
Joining Andonovski will be new Assistant Coach Goran Karadzov. Karadzov is a former Macedonian National Team Player who has been coaching internationally and most recently with FC Kansas City and Blue River Community College. Former Comets player Doug McLagan will remain with the team in his capacity as Assistant Coach as well.
New to the staff this season will be Strength & Conditioning Coach, Scott Moody. Moody is the founder and CEO for the not-for-profit Training and Research Institute for Athletic Development (TRIAD). His program, SoccerFIT Academy, will help keep Comets players in the kind of shape needed to make it through the MISL season.
As the new technical staff begins preparations for the 2013-2014 campaign, the building process will begin with Open Tryouts. This year’s competition will be September 28th (2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. CT) and 29th (9:00a.m. – 11:00a.m CT) at the KC Soccer Dome, 5909 Equitable Rd., Kansas City, MO. Registration is $50 in advance or $65 on the day of.
