Midfielder Earns His First Weekly Award
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri (January 21, 2013) – The Major Indoor Soccer League announced on Tuesday that Comets midfielder Lucas Rodriguez was named to the Week Ten MISL Team of the Week. Hours after proposing to his fiancée, Rodriguez helped his team to a 22-4 victory over rival Milwaukee Wave. He finished the night with a hat trick, including a three-point goal, and seven points. Pennsylvania Roar goalkeeper Peter Pappas was named the MISL Player of the Week for the 10th week of the 2013-14 regular season. Pappas recorded a shutout as the Roar claimed their first win in franchise history on Sunday afternoon with victory against the St. Louis Ambush. Pappas has been a bright spot for the Roar in their inaugural season and was at his best against the Ambush. Despite being outshot by St. Louis, Pappas recorded 32 saves and his defense blocked 23 shots as the Roar claimed a 16-0 victory.
The performance raised Pappas’ save percentage this season to .729, good for fifth in the league. Joining Pappas on the Team of the Week was his Roar teammate Pete Rowley, who scored the opening two goals of the game to send his side on its way to victory. Wave midfielder Jonathan Greenfield also earned selection as his pair of goals led the Wave to a 16-4 win against the Comets in the second game of their home-and-home weekend series on Saturday. Rochester’s Jake Schindler earned one of the two defensive berths on the team as his two goals helped the Lancers claim a 16-14 victory against Syracuse on Friday night. He was joined by the Silver Knights’ Bo Jelovac, who scored the game-winning goal with 58 seconds to play in Syracuse’s dramatic 9-8 win against Baltimore on Sunday. The Comets will return home to the Independence Events Center next Friday, January 24th at 7:35p.m. CT to take on the St. Louis Ambush. The Comets will be hosting their Annual Retro Night and will be honoring players of the Comets/Attack history. The team will be
wearing special jerseys and auctioning them off following the game.
